    Dear Sir

I would like to suggest you a news portal based on citizen or participatory journalism, working in India. Your little support (like listing or posting) can help them to popularize this platform in India.

Merinews is not just any news organization but a movement to deliver efficiently the duties of the fourth estate. Public opinion is an important area to be left for decisions made by few self-interested journalists.

To popularize this participatory platform, we need your support. A listing in your “citizen journalism initiative list” (or a posting) can help us to achieve our goal.
Please act for uncared people in the largest democratic state!

    Visit our site: http://www.merinews.com

    Best Regards,

Trinity Mirror scoops Consumer Website of the Year for GazetteLive

Trinity Mirror’s GazetteLive website has won Consumer Website of the Year and Best Online Community at the Association of Online Publishers awards.

The Teesside site fought off stiff competition from BBC News, the Daily Telegraph, the Sun, IPC Media and others to win the two prestigious awards, at a ceremony at the London Hilton, Park Lane, on Wednesday evening.

The innovative approach of GazetteLive was highlighted with the award for Consumer Website of the Year 2007. The website hosts a series of postcoded microsites featuring the contribution of around150 bloggers, and is driven from a multimedia newsroom where journalists produce content for both print and online publication. Recognising the groundbreaking nature of the GazetteLive site, the judges commented that it “sets a new benchmark for local news sites….we felt that we were part of the community.”

In winning the award for Best Online Community 2007, the judges recognised that GazetteLive “delved deeper than ever before into core communities” and praised the way it reached new online audiences and opened up hyper-local advertising opportunities to small businesses and big advertisers alike. Up against some stiff competition from the likes of The Sun and The Daily Telegraph the judges described GazetteLive as “a cut above the other community sites – a great example of how to make local news real, with relevant interactivity.”

Editor of the Evening Gazette, Darren Thwaites, said: “This is a fitting reward for the hard work and innovation of our whole team. We’ve made enormous progress in the last year, embracing multimedia opportunities and creating a website to be proud of. The challenge for us now is to build on our success. This is an all-round team effort that everyone can be very proud of.”

David Black, Trinity Mirror’s Group Director of Digital Publishing, said: “These awards recognize the excellent progress we are making growing our digital activities. The awards – given the stiff competition – reflect the innovative nature of the site.”

Neil Benson, Trinity Mirror’s Editorial Director, Regionals, said: “This is an exciting time for the GazetteLive, and further recognition of the innovative approach of the site, having also picked up an industry award for Regional Website of the Year 2007 in June. The site continues to reach out to the local community to engage, entertain and inform.”

Do you value the pr distribution services?

Lately I wondered if there is real value from the pr wire distributions. There are some recent studies on the influence of various social media practices on journalism, but is this mainstream tactic still valued?

I just popped up a survey and while certainly not overly scientific I am hoping to see if there is any consensus. Your participation and thoughts would be appreciated.
