Interesting piece.
Just a shame your criticism of my music blog is incorrect.

As you'll see virtually every review piece contains links to either youtube video clips or myspace sites - plus links to all the record labels.

Eg: http://www.peterguy.merseyblogs.co.uk/2008/03/new_soundbites_march_814.html

Good to see the tagging, but can they not be put to more use such as creating friendly urls rather than just an alternative way of searching the site

Thanks very much for the feedback - glad you like the new sites.

Just to add to Neil's comment, expect to see us do more with some of the interactive features you mention in the weeks ahead. Following the launches, we have more good things to come.

In fact, Trinity Mirror's newspaper-branded sites were launched last year, using our old web template. Yesterday's launch involved completely redesigned templates and new functionality, based on user research.

There are three templates for editors to choose from - two are aimed (broadly) at larger titles and the third is a blog-based template using Movable Type software.

The new templates are more flexible, enabling local news teams to reconfigure the look of their site to reflect local needs and the news agenda of the day, within the overall site architecure.

Will these follow the template, or will there be more editorial freedom?

As I understand it, there are two centrally-produced templates that local editors can chose from.
